Announcements: Friday December 13 is the annual Greece Rotary Christmas Bash, 6 PM til ? at the Ridgemont Country Club Entertainment will be by our own Frank Ardino and his band. Invites are out in the mail. RSVP as soon as possible.
Dianne Berardicurti is coordinating the printed program for the Ziti dinner. She has forms available for those who can sell ad space or who wish to advertise in the Ziti program. The Ziti ticket promotion letter, along with the above mentioned program advertising form is posted on the web site at http://home.rochester.rr.com/greecerotary
Chuck Krause still needs volunteers to sell LPGA tickets at the mall on Christmas Eve from 1 – 4 PM and on December 29th from 3 – 6 PM. Next Wednesday’s meeting will include a training session on LPGA ticket sales and car raffle ticket sales.
Dave Nagel reports our membership is at 99 members. We can still meet our goal of 110 members by the end of the year. Look around you at work and in your community and you are bound to spot some great men and women who would make great members. Lets invite them to lunch!
Gary Valentine will have the Discount Entertainment coupon books available the first week of December. A great stocking stuffer!
The nominating committee announced the results of their deliberations. Tom Shay has been selected as next year’s Vice-President. A slate of candidates for open board spots was announced. The candidates are Susan Edgett, Al Schneier, Doug DeVey, Jim Gaudet, and Steve Robbins. The committee encourages any other nominations from the membership. Nominations will be accepted from the floor at the next two weekly meetings. The election is on December 18 the date of the club’s annual meeting.
The annual children’s Christmas party with Santa is on December 11th at 11:15. Channel 13 will be covering the event as part of it’s “Brightspot” programming. Tom Lawson is coordinating the event.
Today’s program and Speakers: Gary Krause, Del Smith, and Tom Nolan presented a program on year-end tax strategies for business and individuals. Gary spoke on recent changes to the tax laws which allow higher retirement contributions and the deduction of student loan interests and tuition. He also gave some tips on adjusting gross income by deferring bonus’ and other gains while maximizing loss’ by prepaying NY State tax, selling off losing stocks, and other techniques.
Tom Nolan spoke on corporate/business tax strategies and recent changes to the tax laws which allow immediate %30 deduction on equipment and vehicle purchases which were previously deducted evenly over a 5 year period. Tom pointed out that NY State is now using the Federal tax tables and has announced an “Amnesty” program from Nov 18 to the end of the year.
