Greece Rotary Cars for Kids (aka- Let Greece Rotary rotate your car for the Kids).   Mike Sofia introduced a new fundraising method for the club.  Since the club is now a 501 ©(3), we can now take donations form the public.  We can now accept Cars, Trucks, RV’s, and Boats.  The club has a mechanism that will only cost the club about $100.00 per vehicle.  The club will net all remaining proceeds.  Mike gave the example of a 1998 Chevy.  If traded in on a new car the individual would receive about $1500.00 in a trade.  Now if this person donates the car to Greece rotary we give the person a receipt for the car and the person can determine the value from Kelly Blue Book (KBB.com) or NADA.  The value would be about $3000.00.  This can be deducted on the person’s tax return.  The club would probably get about $1500.00 at auction.  After paying costs the club nets = $1400.00.

At first the club’s members will be the sale force to get this way of raising money up and going.  If you know of anyone looking to donate a vehicle, please have them call Dave Nagel.  He will be the lead person for this committee.

Today’s program

Past District Governor Bob Hunt gave the club a presentation about the Rotary Foundation.

He began by telling all members how to access their own account on the Rotary International site.  The member will need the following information:  the District # is 7120.  The Greece Rotary Club # is 4783.    The member will need to put in their membership number which they can obtain from the mailing label on the Rotarian Magazine when it arrives.

The Rotary Foundation is found at http://www.rotary.org/foundation/index.html

The Foundation has two main arms:  the first is fundraising and the other is Programs.

The Fundraising arm is further divided into an Annual Fund and Permanent Fund.  The Permanent Fund is an endowment fund.  The moneys dispensed come from use of interest earned each year.  The principle in this fund is not touched.  The fund is now over $200,000,000.00.  The plan is to raise money to get this fund over 1 billion dollars within the next few years.

The Annual Funds are donation received not directed to Permanent fund.  The moneys here are spent annually with a small exception the money is allowed to stay in an account earning interest for three years before it is released.  When the money is released it is split 50/50 with the district the money originally it came from and the RI Foundation’s World Fund.

The money coming back to the District comes back as part of a “Share “program.  It is also called District Designation Funds.  These funds sponsor scholarships, group study exchanges, matching grants, etc.

The 50% going to RI foundation World Fund helps fund GSE team (group Study Exchanges teams), matching grants and other RI programs

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE

Subject: GETTING INTO HEAVEN

Three men died on Christmas Eve and were met by Saint Peter at the pearly gates.

"In honor of this holy season," Saint Peter said, "you must each possess something that symbolizes Christmas to get into heaven."

The first man fumbled through his pockets and pulled out a lighter. He flicked it on. It represents a candle, he said.

You may pass through the pearly gates Saint Peter said.

The second man reached into his pocket and pulled out a set of keys. He shook them and said, "They're bells". Saint Peter said you may pass through the pearly gates.

The third man started searching desperately through his pockets and finally pulled out a pair of women's panties.

St. Peter looked at the man with a raised eyebrow and asked, "And just what do those symbolize?"

The man replied, "They're Carols".
