New Member Induction:

            Paul Soscia inducted by Liz Richardson.  Sponsored by Rich Vogelzang.

Paul has a wife, Sue, and six children.  His hobbies are cooking, fishing, and skiing.   He has selected Rotary’s vocational or international work to start.

 

Announcements:

     Laurel announced her retirement.    

·         Saturday, May 17 is the Camp Haccamo Spring clean-up day. 

·         The Area 9 Dinner netted approx $1,000, 125 tickets sold, 60 people showed.

·          District Assembly is Saturday, 4/5/08.  Let Dan Barletta know if you can attend, the club has paid for six tickets, only 2 confirmed thus far.

·         Brad Shea has sent each member the letter about the Foundation challenge for each member to pay $100.  Brad accepting your contributions.

·         Rich presented a ziti wrap-up report.  The cut off date for all monies is 3/31.  Total income thus far $51,643.63, $7,108 expenses, the diplomat’s bill is still outstanding, approx $44,535 net income.  Great job by all who participated.  Rich ask that you share your suggestions.  Some already received are have host carry signs reading ”seating available here”, increase the hours, have all desserts together (ice cream & baked goods), more place mat ads, establish a committee to help write letters to send to club member contacts, better decaf and regular coffee.  A printed ziti wrap-up report was provided. 

·          A reminder that the district governor’s loose change POLIO Plus jug is here at every meeting. 

·         Chuck Krause announced that on May 17, 2008 volunteers are needed to work at Camp Haccamo.  The train needs to be moved form Camp Haccamo to the Sunchine Camp.  The train will be called Camp Haccomo.  The National Day of Caring is 5/8/08.   Camp Haccomo is a mortgage free property valued at approximately $875,000.  The proceeds from the sale will go to the Haccomo Foundation.  Haccomo has a five year contract to lease 3 weeks from Sunshine camp. That will be enough to accommodate approximately 420 campers which is the usual for Haccamo.  A new camping cabin that can house 30 campers is being built.  Approximately 150 campers per week is anticipated. 

·         Hike for Haccomo is scheduled for October 12, 2008.

·         Spruce up Greece Day end of April 26th 9-12, need volunteers, see Kurt Morris

February’s board meeting announcements are:  New member Paul Soscia approved.  The board voted to create fund of $2,000 seed money for next year’s wine for ziti.  The wine making was a big hit this year. 

 

Rich V. will send letters to the club members who didn’t reach the minimum financial contribution for ziti.

Committee Reports  

Membership Committee

Membership count as of March 18, 2007 is 95.                         

            Attendance Committee – Tracy Wooden

Letters went out last month to 3 members about their attendance and non payment of dues:

Diane Berardicurti – non payment of dues, we did not hear from her, Membership terminated

Robert Roberts – attendance, asked for leave of absence, did not hear from, Membership terminated

Richard Baum – attendance, board heard form Richard Membership continued

A letter will be sent to Dave Kotesky stating that his attendance is way below the club standard, we need to hear from him on a plan to improve or his membership will be terminated.

A letter will be sent to Tom Sime stating his attendance is below the club standard and he needs to improve it.    

 

Club Administration Committee - Brad Turner

Area 9 Fun Night, was March 8, 2008, a total of $941.00 was raised for the Sunshine Camp & Camp Haccamo

 

District Assembly meeting is April 5th at Naples High School; all new members are encouraged to attend. So far only 3 members are signed up to attend.

           

Service Projects – Brian Cacia

Brian again talked about the possible Gazebo/Band Shell project. They have appointments to look at some facilities and will discuss at next meeting.

 

Community Service Committee - Judie Van Bramer

No Report

 

International Service Committee - Linda Blossom

            Linda has put together a presentation for the club and will also present it to the other clubs that help fund the project.

 

            Linda would also like to take $2000.00 of her $6500.00 budget and pledge it to the Victor-Farmington club project solar oven project for the Honduras. She will give a formal proposal at a future meeting. She would also like to continue with the funding of shelter boxes and the wheel chair project.

Public Relations – Liz Richardson

Dan reported that Liz is working on several PR opportunities for the club. The public relations chair, Liz, has announcements on Clear Channel’s WHAM, 95 FOX, and 101 airing Rotary Ads.   $2000 allocated for in this year’s budget for PR.  Liz has secured free press so far.    

 

Rotary Foundation – Everyone should have received a letter in regards to the Rotary Foundation from chair Brad Shea.

Ziti Update:

            Rich reported income and expenses of the clubs 2008 Ziti Dinner: (as of March 18, 2008)

                        Income: $51,523.63

                        Expenses: $7108.20

                        Net Income: $44,415.43

 

New Business:

1.     Budget Reallocation – President Dan asked to reallocate $2000.00 from Public Relations Budget:

                        $1500.00 to Literacy for 3rd graders at Buckman Heights, book drive for Ethiopia

                         $500.00 to unallocated funds.

2.     The BoD discussed bumping up Joe Distante to a Paul Harris sapphire and also present him with a plaque in recognition for his years of service in Greece Rotary.

The club will tap into the club’s credits of $34,000.00 using $500.00 for the elevation.

4.     MOU – Memorandum of Understanding – Larry Wills

Larry discussed the MOU as outlined between Wegmans and DCMC. The document summarizes the terms under which the Disabled Children of Monroe County, Inc. will transfer all of the assets associated with the Wegmans LPGA tournament to the United Way of Greater Rochester, Inc. Larry Wills reported that Camp Haccamo and the Sunshine Camp will equally share the $1,000,000 gift from Wegmans.  The United Way will take over the LPGA tournament as the key charity.  The transfer to take place 10/01/08. Wegmans still wants Rotary to be involved. 

 

5.     RYLA – Brad Shea had requested for his grandson to attend RYLA.  There is $450 budgetted for this line item.  If not spent by club, district requests we fund student from outside club service area.

 

6.     Spruce up Greece – Greece is having a “Spruce up Greece” day for citizens and community groups to help clean up areas of Greece. The BoD decided to participate and ask for volunteers.

 

7.     Bob Hunt – Father passed away, the club will allocate $100 worth of Foundation money in his name.
