LPGA

Three years ago, 14 Greece Rotarians took and passed a 6-hour course on food preparation and handling put on by the Monroe County Health Dept. This course was required by Wegmans and LPGA for us to operate our food concession tent during the LPGA event for the last 3 years.  It is required by Monroe County Health Dept. that at least one certified person be present while our tent is operating. And Health Dept. inspectors do visit us every day throughout the event.  With 19 different work shifts during the LPGA, you can see why we need so many certified Rotarians.

Now we must be re-certified in order to operate our food tent during the LPGA - June 17-23.  Last year our tent sold $37,000+ in food/drinks - the highest amongst the 15 Rotary clubs with concession tents.

In order to continue our participation for the next 3 years, we need to be re-certified.  Therefore the Health Dept. will conduct a 2-hour refresher course on April 23 during the evening for those members who want to continue their certification status. It will be held at Ridgmont CC or Locust Hill CC.

Those members currently certified are Bob Potter, Dave Fisher, Frank Ardino, Roger Boily, Rich Vogelzang, Bill Testa, Bill Von Dohlen, Brad Shea, Dave Nagel, Frank Carberry, Mike Taylor, Ed D'Angelo, and John Soldi.  The fee for this course is $26 per person and will be paid by our club.

If you plan to renew your certification, please e-mail (bcshea@localnet.com) or call Brad Shea (225-1288) as soon as possible.  For those Rotarians who want to be certified for the first time, also call Brad.

Chuck Krause will be picking up LPGA Raffle Tickets for the club.  We are all asked to sell $20.00 worth of tickets.

President Del asked if any member might have a Greece Rotary Flag.  He needs to look at it so we can order new flags.

Today’s program

Cindy Martone described a new program that one of her teachers is developing at the Holmes Road school with the help of a number of Greece Rotarians.  Greg Pippine is developing an outdoor teaching program that using a Teepee made from logs donated by Larry Waye and designed by Paul Chatfield.  Tom Shay is looking for old tents to form the walls of the Teepee. The Teepee will allow outdoor classroom activities that will merge NYS Educational Standards with environmental, Nature and Science studies.

At the conclusion of the discussion today, Cindy had a class of young people come in to teach the club a Norwegian Folk Dance.  Pictures of this dance are posted on the web site listed below.
