Today’s program

Club Assembly – President Del reviewed the minutes for the Board meeting heard this last Monday March 18th.

Treasurers Report:

Cash position as of February 28, 2002 is $34,402. This amount includes approximately 95% of Ziti receipt deposits. At this time last year we had $26,000 in cash so our current cash position is strong. Effort to collect remaining Ziti money from members will be done.

Our fund balances as of February 28, 2002 are as follows:

            Liotta Scholarship Fund              $21,605

            M. Moraes Scholarship Fund          3,702

            World Community Fund                  1,307

Both the Liotta scholarship fund and the Moreas scholarship fund are both self funding. With the expected rate of return from each funds investments, no additional dollars should be required from the general funds. Both funds are invested in mortgage backed securities and have performed well in light of the recent market turmoil.

Ziti receipts from member ticket sales, advertising, wine sales, bake food sale and 50/50 approximated $25,000 as of January 31. Additional receipts from members totaled approximately $2,200 in February bringing our total receipts to $27,200.  All members will be encouraged to bring in any and all Ziti money as soon as possible.  Total expenses to date are approximately $3,500. Expenses which we have not received invoices from as of February 28, are estimated to be around $500. Anticipated that our net will be in the neighborhood of $25,000, making this our second most successful Ziti dinner.  Great job by all members!!!

Our budgeted vs. year to date profit and loss was reviewed. We are in a very good cash position as compared to this time last year. Our budgeted commitments on expenditures from now until year end approximates $27,000 with our current cash totaling $34,000.  We should be in a good cash position when Bill Testa takes over as president on July 1, 2002.

Club Service:

John Lioi reported that we have had 13 new members since the beginning of the year, July 1, 2001, with 6 terminations, giving us a net increase of 7 members.  Total membership now stands at 94.  I new member proposal brought to the board and a 7 day letter was approved for Timothy Hack whose sponsor is Rino Pappano. This will bring our current membership to 95.

All members will be encouraged to bring guests to our weekly meeting so that our

membership goal of 100 members by the end of our fiscal year ending June 30, 2002 can be met.

Community Service:

Tracy Wooden will be pulling together her committee this month to determine our literacy project for next year.

International Service:

There was discussion about the potential for Greece Rotary to host an exchange student for the next fiscal year 2002-2003.  Mike Taylor has been in contact with the District Coordinator regarding our participation in the exchange program and will forward a name and other information on the exchange student as soon as he receives information from district.  We need to forward the names of at least 3 families from our club who would be interested in serving as host families.  Del Smith has volunteered to be a host and will ask the club for any other member interest in becoming a host family.

Del informed the club that it is still his goal to have a Greece Rotary Foundation set up by the end of his term which on June 30, 2002.  This will allow our club to be a true 501(c )3 organization and we will be able to accept tax deductible contributions.. More to come on this issue.

Vocational Service:

Del noted that we still have not expended in our budget, the $1,000 committed to our Interact clubs at both Greece Arcadia and Greece Olympia.  Del to contact Colleen Meger, the coordinator of our Interact programs, for ideas. It was noted that our Interact club utilized the prior years budgeted amount to bring Interact members to our District Conference.

Old Business:

A list of all Greece Rotary committee’s still not received by President Del.  The board reviewed all of our various committee’s. Sue Edgett to discuss with Bill Testa and get to Del a list.  We need to define all committee’s and what they do and educate all members. All members will then be encouraged to serve on at least one committee.

New Business:

The fundraising committee is alive and well and is reviewing various proposals from members on new fundraising ideas.  Elizabeth Richardson, Tod Myers, Dan Barletta and Tracy Wooden have been meeting to discuss various proposals.  They will keep us posted on any and all new proposals which come there way.

Next Board Meeting is Monday April 15, 2002 at Greg Halstead’s, 141 Bram Hall Drive.
