Today’s Program

Our guest speaker today was Major Wade Cook.  The major is part of the 401st Civil Affairs unit based in Webster.  The Major told the club that the unit is the interface between the soldiers and the civilians in any place that the United States sends its troops.

The unit is the first contact with military leadership and civilian leadership.  The unit spent 9 months in Afghanistan.  Before they left last year Channel 10 gave the unit a camera so they could document their travels.  When they returned the film was edited.  The Major showed the film to the club today.

In Afghanistan the unit served two purposes.  The first was to represent the United States.  The second was to engage in rebuilding infrastructure especially communications.  In Afghanistan they rebuilt schools.
