Kim Putnam thanked the club members for their support in her recent bid for Mrs. NY – she especially thanked all those who helped to sponsor her effort.
President Bill thanked the following members for their contribution and efforts in the community and club: Larry Waye: organizing the 4th of July celebration at the Grace & Truth Sports Park. Frank Ardino, Mike Sofia and Rich Vogelzang for the very successful Tour Challenge. Dave Nagle: for his annual 4th of July party.
Bill also encouraged all members to check out Rotary International’s (RI) website at, www.rotary,org and our district’s web site at www.ROTARY7120@aol.com and DG Alhart’s website at don@alhart.com for more information on Rotary. Our website is linked to both RI’s and the district sites.
If you have any changes or additions to our club directory, please be sure to update the books circulating during the meeting or the change sheets. Bill hopes to have the directory out by August 1 and if you have changes, corrections, additions, now is the time.

Speaker: AG Bud Gearhart laid out DG Don Alhart’s plans and objectives for this Rotary year. Bud had met with the board prior to the meeting to review the goals for this year and he thinks we are on target. He complimented the club for the very successful membership campaign. FYI – our club boasted the largest membership growth in the district last year.
DG Alhart will visit our club on December 11. Don is also available for club meetings that offer something very special, like a Paul Harris presentation, new member induction and other significant events. Bud encouraged us to reach out to Don as we are in close proximity to him and our meeting time fits nicely into his schedule.
Bud encouraged attendance and participation at the 8/2 Rotary Night Red Wings Game and the 9/21 Governor’s Dinner. Bud’s role is to assist Governor Don in the official visits and handle more of the administrative RI needs, so Don’s (and future governor’s time) is better spent with Rotarians.
Don’s theme for this year is “To Keep Rotary Simple.” He asks each and every Rotarian to do something new, for instance, if you have never sponsored a member, do so. If you have never attended a District Conference, plan to. If you have never served in a leadership position for your club, volunteer. If you have never contributed to the Rotary Foundation, make a pledge.
This year’s biggest RI priority is to raise $80 million to fully eradicate polio from the world. On July 31, Past Pres. Liz Richardson will make a presentation to the club on this exciting Rotary led health initiative. Liz is currently serving as the Area 9 Polio Plus coordinator for District 7120.
DG Don is anticipating a five percent membership growth in the district, which is in-line with the RI membership objective. His other plans include the creation of a deaf and hard of hearing club in the district, the distribution of dictionaries with the Rotary wheel to every third grader in the district, and the welcoming of a Rotary Group Study Exchange (GSE) Team from District 2090 in Italy.
A traveling ambassador will also visit all the clubs in District 7120, Montague M. Bear. Montague is a Boyd’s Original bear bedecked in Rotary regalia who must visit all the clubs before he can attend this year’s district conference. We wish him well and safe travel this year. This year’s District Conference will be held April 2 –4, 2003, in Montreal. C’est magnifique!
Bud closed with a reminder of this year’s RI Theme, “Sow the Seeds of Love,” and on behalf of Gov. Don asked all us to sow the seeds of love, membership, foundation and service and the harvest will return to us in bounty. 50/50 was won be the ever elusive and enigmatic Dan Richardson.
Correction for an article in last week’s Beacon.
The American Red Cross Blood Drive will be held at the Greece Assembly of God, not at the YMCA as previously reported.
