Speaker:

Steve Achramovitch gave an insightful presentation on the State of the Greece School District 2008.  (My apologies, I have not done justice to his excellent presentation pb.)

Some educational challenges the district is addressing – include (but not limited to):

  • The School District is working on creative planning, execution and vigilant monitoring of their plan in order to bring the School District to the next level.

  • People today can expect to have 10-14 careers by the time they are 38 yrs

  • Increased poverty in Greece

    • Effects budget (for instance: free & reduced lunch program has doubled in 10 years)

  • Technology – ever changing and in many ways unforeseeable.  Planning is a challenge.

  • Funding from the county was decreased and state funding is allotted for new programming.

  • What can we do?

    • Write letters to your elected officials!  Vote!  Participate on the School board.
