Today’s program and Speakers: Judy VanBramer started today discussion by giving a little history about St. Joseph’s Villa. The villa has been in existence for 60 years. St. Joseph’s Villa responds to the needs of kids, families and the community through a network of nationally-recognized, high quality mental health and supportive programs. These services include residential, educational and preventative programs.
Judy informed the club that the villa runs a number of fundraising activities. The Ugly Tie Luncheon is April 4th. An anniversaries party is planned to celebrate the 60th year this November 9th. The annual Golf Tournament is the 3rd Monday in September. The principal of the St’ Joseph Villa school gave an overview of the educational program offered at the campus. Education is the key for kids in trouble. It gives kids a future. (0 students live on the Dewey Ave. Campus. The students range in age from 11-18 years old. The school levels range from 5th through 12th grade. Most of the students are in the 8th - 10th grade. The Educational program meets all NYS Education standards. It has the same curriculum so the students do not loose any time while at the villa and before they go back to their regular schools.
The 90 students have about 60 people supporting the kids. There is one teacher for every 6 students. All the teachers are certified special educators.
Presently the school is looking at adding a Science Lab and more internet access.
Monroe County and NYS pays for the students. There is no contribution from United Way other than from Donor Designations.
The kids come to St. Joes from referral from: dept of Social Services, Sept of Children’s Service, Office of Mental Health and from School Districts.
