Greece Rotary Board Meeting Notes – Monday February 11, 2002
Treasurers Report: Cash position as of January 31, 2002 is $34,515. This amount includes approximately 90% of Ziti receipt deposits. Effort to collect remaining Ziti money from members will be done.
Our fund balances as of January 31, 2002 are as follows:
Liotta Scholarship Fund $21,605 M. Moraes Scholarship Fund $ 3,702 World Community Fund $1,307
Both the Liotta scholarship fund and the Moreas scholarship fund are both self funding. With the expected rate of return from each funds investments, no additional dollars should be required from the general funds. Both funds are invested in mortgage backed securities and have performed well in light of the recent market turmoil.
Ziti receipts from member ticket sales, advertising, wine sales, bake food sale and 50/50 approximates $25,000. More still coming in from members with a hope for total receipts of $27,500.
Club Service: John Lioi reported that we have had 12 new members since the beginning of the year, July 1, 2001, with 6 terminations, giving us a net increase of 6 members. Total membership now stands at 93. Discussion centered around members whose attendance have slipped who seem to have drifted from the club. Del, Dave and the individual sponsors will contact these members to bring them back to club meetings and activities.
All members will be encouraged to bring guests to our weekly meeting so that our membership goal of 100 members by the end of our fiscal year ending June 30, 2002 can be met.
Community Service: Tracy Wooden will be pulling together her committee this month to determine our literacy project for next year.
International Service: There was discussion about the potential for Greece Rotary to host an exchange student for the next fiscal year 2002-2003. Our past president, Elizabeth Richardson, who hosted our last exchange student a few years back and is still in contact with her and her family, couldn’t say enough about the experience. Mike Taylor has been in contact with the District Coordinator regarding our participation in the exchange program. We need to forward the names of at least 3 families from our club who would be interested in serving as host families. Del will ask the club for interest in hosting from the members.
Vocational Service: Del asked the board members if anyone was interested in filing the vacancy for Vocational chair which was vacated by Paul Chatfield upon his resignation. No one came forward and Del will ask individually. The Arcadia club is up and running thanks to the efforts of Colleen Meger. The Olympia club is getting its feet wet and may need our support. Dan Barletta suggested that we form an Interact Committee to oversee this important area of the club. As soon as we replace Paul’s chair position a committee will be formed.
Old Business: There are still over 20 members who have not handed in Ziti money. Del and Bill Testa to review list contact members individually. Del also to stress importance of turning in at weekly meetings. It was also decided to publish a list of all members who sold more than $500.00 of Ziti tickets to publicly thank them for their efforts. Bill to put list together for publication.
New Business: It was noted that many of our club members, especially our newer members, are not familiar with the time and dollar commitments expected of them throughout the year, especially with the large amount of new members we’ve obtained over the last two years. Rich Vogelzang suggested that we put together an Annual Expectation Sheet that should be reviewed with each prospective member prior to completing application. Rich will develop such a sheet and present it to the board for feedback and comments.
It was determined that the first weekly luncheon of the month we will devote to educating our members on various aspects of our club and on Rotary in general. The March session will be held on March 13, since we are on the road till then. Del to work with Dave Koteskey to schedule out the programs and the speakers.
The following are upcoming Rotary events:
· Area 2 Dinner – Wednesday February 27, 2002 at Hilton Fireman’s Exempt Hall at 6:00PM. Cost is $15.00 and the speakers will include 2 Brighton Rotary Club members, originally from Afghanistan, who will speak on Rotary opportunities for that country.
· District 7120 Assembly – Saturday March 23, 2002 at SUNY Geneseo from 8:00AM to 1:00 PM. Cost will be picked up by the club. Assembly to cover numerous breakout sessions educating members on very aspects of Rotary.
· District Conference – Friday April 12 to Sunday April 14, 2002 at Lancaster, PA. Individual information have been passed out to all members.
Next Board Meeting is Monday March 18, 2002 at Greg Halstead’s, 141 Bram Hall Drive.
